Qualification/Experience
Teresa grew up in the biggest city in South Dakota. From a young age Teresa knew she wanted to be a counselor as she watched and admired her mother, another fellow counselor in the field. Teresa went to a private Christian university, University of Sioux Falls to pursue her bachelors degree. She graduated in May of 2017 with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Bachelors of Arts in Art. Art is a way Teresa enjoys to express herself and will often incorporate art in her sessions with her clients. Teresa started her Graduate degree shortly after graduating with her bachelors. She graduated with a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Counseling from South Dakota State University in August of 2020.
Teresa has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She interned at two sites as a pre-graduate: Avera Behavioral Health Hospital and The Compass Center. When working at Avera Behavioral Health Hospital Teresa worked with adults who struggled with suicide, self-harm, addiction, depression, anxiety, and psychosis. When working at The Compass Center, a non-profit organization, Teresa saw individuals across the life span who were survivors of sexual assault and/or domestic violence. Therefore, Teresa has experience in working with individuals across the life span with a wide range of mental illnesses. Teresa has a passion for helping others and providing a space where they can grow and feel safe to work through their life stressors and mental health concerns.
Teresa and her husband recently moved to Austin,TX in 2020. In her free time she enjoys rock climbing, spending time with loved ones, traveling, and creating art.
