Qualification/Experience

Alyssa is currently a graduate student at Texas State University pursuing her MA degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a focus on Child-Centered Play Therapy.  She has a passion for working with children and adolescents, using expressive arts in her therapeutic interventions, and fostering Christ-centered relationships.  Alyssa graduated from Texas A&M University with a BA in English in 2013, and spent the following year as a houseparent at a residential treatment center. God powerfully used that year to light a fire in her heart for supporting children and families in a therapeutic context, and Alyssa promptly enrolled in graduate school.  Alyssa received the saving grace of Jesus at 15 years old, and seeks to encourage young people in their search for significance, and in relationships and pursuits that glorify God.

In her free time, she loves spending time with her husband, playing her guitar, and reading John Steinbeck novels.  Her favorite bible verse is Ephesians 2:8-9 - “For it is by grace we have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, so that no one can boast” (NIV).
